Hello 2021! We hit the ground running and it’s all engines go, with all our programmes up and running again at Won Life. Take a look at what we got up to…

Early Learning Centre

It was a busy start to the year, but a good one for sure. First day of school for our new Grade R learners was a mix of nerves and smiles, but was definitely trumped by excitement. Our 120 learners attend on a one week on and one week off basis and both staff and learners have adjusted seamlessly into this new way of doing school. This term has been a good balance of working hard and playing hard. Besides curriculum and assessments, learners got to experience a mini sports day filled with fun activities and all the children walked away winners with a certificate and ice-lolly to cool off. A visit from DogzCool and their incredible dog show was a definite highlight of the term. We also had the mandatory easter egg hunt and children had a blast running around and searching on the playground. We are also so grateful for the service that VisionBox provided for our learners which included free eye tests and glasses for learners who needed them. All in all, a great term and we are looking forward to next term.

Literacy Centre

Literacy Centre sessions are in full swing. We have all our Grade 2 and 3 learners attending and it is just so much fun to see the learners and volunteers engaging and enjoying sessions so much. We have missed this! Our centre has a new look with all the new PPE necessary to safely deliver sessions, but none the less we are doing whatever it takes to make sessions a success. The introduction of individual phonics workbooks that volunteers and learners can actively engage with has been a highly effective tool in session delivery.  We were able to hand out donated English literacy resources and activities to all the Grade 1-4 learners just in time for the holidays. We are still needing more volunteers so that we can support more learners. If you are interested in getting involved, please send us an email at

High School Programme

We would like to congratulate the 2020 Matrics who attended our Education Centre last year. Well done for all achieving a Bachelor’s pass! Happy tears and smiles were shared amongst all of us!

We welcomed a new intake of High School learners and it has been great getting to know this group of Matric and Grade 11 learners. This term, afternoon sessions have been enriched with an IT workshop and learners left with a better understanding of Microsoft Word and how to effectively research and find relevant information on the internet. We also held focussed workshop sessions on Study Planning and Study Skills which are pivotal skills to have when approaching assessments, tests and exams. If you are interested in volunteering at our Education Centre in the afternoons, please contact us on .

Teacher Mentorship Programme

This year we have had the opportunity to provide this Grade 1-3 Caps in a Snap curriculum to Range Primary School and the new Fisantekraal Primary School teachers. At the start of the year, we held a Personal Development Workshop and spent the morning mentoring and sharing our Caps in a Snap Planning material and resources with them. We will be holding our second workshop at the start of next term and continue to look forward to sharing this resource in the hope that it will support and have a positive impact on both teaching and learning.

Thank you!

As always, we would like to convey a HUGE thank you to all our donors, sponsors, volunteers and cheerleaders! We could not do this without you. We thank you for partnering with us in changing lives through education.
