Won Life’s vision is to improve education to promote community upliftment in Fisantekraal. We aim to achieve this by means of our four educational programmes, namely: The Won Life Pre-Primary School, Literacy Centre, High School Education Centre and Teacher Mentorship Programme.
THANK YOU to our wonderful investors, donors, sponsors as well as our fantastic volunteers and awesome community of cheerleaders who help make this all possible!
So, we are officially half way through the year! Take a look at what we got up to during term 2!
Pre-Primary School
Term 2 was filled with fun and excitement!
We started with an Easter egg hunt, where our little learners searched for hidden marshmallow eggs on the playground.
Then, in support of our weekly themes, Lloyd and his incredible dogs from “DogZcool” wowed everyone with their tricks and dance moves.
The first Parent/Teacher meetings were a hit, as parents loved seeing their child’s classroom and work. What a fantastic term it was!

We are immensely grateful to Miss Casey and Miss Confidence from The Learning Initiative for their outstanding dedication and remarkable work with our Grade R learners this term.
Learning Initiative also invited our learners parents to their sessions to observe their children’s development. This observation served as a valuable opportunity for parents to witness the activities conducted with their little ones. It allowed them to assess the notable improvements made in various areas of development and identify areas where additional support may be beneficial. This firsthand experience offered parents a deeper understanding of the program’s methodology and equips them with new strategies to foster their children’s growth and stimulation at home.
Thank you Learning Initiative! We truly appreciate your wonderful contributions to our learners progress.
Literacy Centre
We kicked off the term by welcoming 4 new volunteers to our Literacy Centre family. We then had 4 more volunteers join us during the course of the term. We launched our Phonics Bridge Course for our Grade 2s, as they started learning their English letter sounds. And our Grade 3’s had a dual learning focus, as they learnt their sight, words as well as the different parts of speech.
We then wrapped up the term with a revision assessment. To establish how our learners are progressing. We are SO proud of them!
High School Programme
Our Education Centre has been a hive of activity this term!
We’ve been equipping ourselves for the upcoming exams, as well as life itself. Some of the Refined and Stronger workshops we’ve run this term include Sex Ed 101, Sexual Consent and even Self-Defence which was hosted by our friends from FightBackSA.
From an academic perspective we’ve been very focused on our exam preparation, and subsequently we looked at some study planning tips, various study techniques and finally the way in which we approach specific exam papers and questions. Needless to say, we’re all ready for the holidays after a productive term.
Teacher Mentorship Programme
This term we have continued to equip the 15 Foundation Phase teachers at Fisantekraal Primary with the knowledge and resources for best practice, so that they can teach more effectively in their classrooms. With a major focus on phonics, our teachers have reported breakthroughs in their learners reading and spelling, after implementing strategies that we have based on the latest reading science.
Our weekly meetings not only focus on strengthening knowledge, but on building relationships and professional sharing. We encourage the teachers to share their own knowledge and experience, drawing on one another’s talents to ultimately strengthen the phase.
